Surrogacy Timeline
- Medical Screening: After you have matched with your Intended Parent/s you will have medical screening preformed by one of the fertility clinics. You will likely have blood work, ultrasounds, urine tests and possible PAP test (depending on when it was last done) completed at this appointment.
- Getting ready for transfer: You will begin a few different hormones in order for your body to prepare your uterus for implantation. Some of these medications are natural estrogen and progesterone. These doses vary and not the same across the board.
- Lining Check: Ultrasound to determine thickness of your uterine lining. If the results are good you will move to the next step.
- Transfer: The will be grown in the laboratory for 3-6 days to make sure they are healthy and ready for implantation. The clinic will chose the best possible embryo with the highest chance of success. The embryo is then transferred into the surrogates uterus by inserting a long, thin, flexible tube called a catheter into your vagina, through your cervix and into your uterus. This procedure is not painful and only last a couple of minutes.
- Two Week Wait: Wait the required two weeks before getting blood work done.
- Pregnancy Test: You will go for blood work approx. 12-14 days after transfer.
- Positive Pregnancy: Once you have been confirmed pregnant, you will continue this pregnancy like a natural pregnancy following the advice of your doctor or midwife.
- If you do not get a positive pregnancy test the clinic will inform you of the next steps, often you will be told to stop some or all of your medications and wait for your cycle to begin and if you chose you can try again shortly after if your fertility doctor and IP(s) are on board.

Contracts
All Together Surrogacy consulting Follows the Assisted Human Reproduction Guidelines
Once you have been medically cleared, you will be required to enter into a surrogacy agreement with your intended parents. This is a legally binding contract that will be created by a fertility lawyer. Your intended parents will pay for your representation and we will connect you with someone who will be your personal lawyer.
The IP(s) lawyer is called the “drafting lawyer” and the gestational carriers lawyer is called the “reviewing lawyer”. The agreement will cover issues such as reimbursements, your legal obligations, your conduct, relinquishment of the child, bed rest, etc. Once you have had an opportunity to review the agreement, you will be asked to have a meeting with your lawyer (this is normally done by telephone or video call due to the location of the lawyers that we work with) to discuss any changes.
Your partner (if applicable) will also be required to review the agreement with you and your lawyer. The reviewing lawyer will relay any amendments to the drafting lawyer. Once all the terms are agreed upon by you, your partner (if applicable), and the IP(s), you will all be required to sign the agreement.
Your clinic will require legal clearance before starting medications. A letter will be sent to the fertility clinic by the drafting lawyer to notify them that you and the IP(s) have received legal clearance and that the cycle can begin.
